15th November 2019
This week, Year 3 have been lucky enough to have a local football coach in to practise some football skills. They thoroughly enjoyed it and learned lots of new skills 🙂 See pictures below:
We also managed to complete our Stone Age art paintings, which look really effective!
Today, we have dressed up in our PJs for Children in Need. We loved it!
8th November 2019
Year 3 have AMAZED me in Maths this week! Their ability to work well independently continues to grow week after week, which has enabled them to complete some fabulous independent Maths! We have been learning how to add/ subtract ones/ tens and hundreds from a 3 digit number. Ask us to show you at home 🙂
We were also lucky enough to have a LEGO workshop in school, which we were ridiculously excited about. See the pictures below:
In PE, we have been learning how to side step and we have been practising different counterbalances with our partners. See pictures below:
25th October 2019
In Year 3 this week, we have been completing our Stone Age axes for Design Technology. They have taken us a while to make but we are super proud of how they have turned out. See the pictures below:
In Science, we have been investigating fossils and we have started to look at how fossils are formed.
In English, we have completed our final week on Stone Age Boy, which made us really sad as we REALLY enjoyed the book and each of the children have produced some truly amazing writing linked with this text.
18th October 2019
This week, we have had a brilliant week! The children have worked extremely hard and we have been on a great trip to the Life Centre in Newcastle! 🙂 We completed a caveman investigation; went into the investigation zone and brain zone; and watched a science show! Everyone was very well-behaved and we were al a credit to Fatfield Academy. Well done Year 3!

This week, we have been using the internet to research pre-historic beasts, particularly…the mammoth! We found out all sorts of interesting facts.
In English, we have been preparing to write an informal diary entry, written by Stone Age Boy.
In Maths, we have moved on to addition and subtraction and are learning how to formally add and subtract numbers. See pictures below:

What another fabulous week in Year 3!
This week, we have been learning all about what people ate during The Stone Age. We have been learning about the animals that they hunted and the food that they gathered during different seasons of the year.
In Maths, we have been completing our place value topic and next week, we will be using the knowledge that we have gained to tackle addition and subtraction.
In Science, we have been investigating rocks and completing an experiment to see which type of rock is the hardest/ softest. See pictures below:
In English, some of us have been transforming our stories from last week into the third person, which we have been able to do really well! Some of us have been writing the story ending from last week’s writing and Miss Harrison is very proud of the progress we have made in just a week. Well done Year 3!

What an amazing start to Year 3! The children have worked so hard over the past few weeks and Miss Hails and I are very proud of them.
Over the last few weeks, Year 3 have been extremely busy designing their new classroom and what a fantastic job they have done! Our new topic ‘Tribal Tales’ is well underway and the children have completed some amazing work and homework projects linked with this topic. Please see some pictures below:
In Science, we have been testing the properties of different biscuits and sweets and linking them with real rocks. Of course, we also had to try the biscuits too!
In Maths, the children have wowed me with their problem solving skills linked with place value. Their knowledge of 3 digit numbers continues to improve with each passing day. Well done Year 3!
In English, we have been writing stories linked with our topic. Some of them are now displayed in our classroom because they were SO impressive!
